History of the Waldo Area Historical Museum
The Waldo Area Historical Museum was first located in Penny Dodd’s wooden house near the Tropix Inn Motel. After the Alachua County School Board closed Waldo Community School in 2015, the City of Waldo acquired the campus and relocated city government offices into the main building, which became known as Waldo City Square.
For a period of time, the museum was housed in a classroom within the Noe Wing of the campus. When a new school expressed interest in using the Noe Wing for a charter program, the museum was relocated. By August 2023, it was moved to its permanent home inside the main Waldo City Square building.
Today, the museum features artifacts and historical archives that tell the story of Waldo’s rich history. Community members are invited to visit the museum to explore the exhibits, conduct research in the archives, and work with the Waldo Area Historical Society in preserving Waldo’s history for future generations.
